Dow Soars Despite Interest Rates

Monday, stocks fell 0.4% in Asia but rose 0.5% in Europe and 0.4% in the U.S. on 21B shares traded. Precious metals gained about 1%. Apple fell below its 300 benchmark while IBM rose above its 220 level.

Tuesday, stocks advanced slightly in Europe but declined 0.7% in Asia and 0.5% in the U.S. on 20B shares traded. Precious metals fell 3% and their miners lost 4%.

Wednesday, stocks lost 0.7% in Asia but gained 1.5% in Europe and 1.0% in the U.S. on 19B shares traded. Precious metals gained 2% and their miners rose 3%. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield fell 2% to end at 4.57. Apple ended above its 300 benchmark.

Thursday, stocks rose 2.7% in Asia, ended little changed in Europe, and rose 0.5% in the U.S. on 18B shares traded. IBM shot up 12% to end above its 250 level and propelling the Dow to a record high close.Friday, stocks gained 0.6% in Asia, 0.8% in Europe, and 0.4% in the U.S. on 18B shares traded. Precious metals fell 1%. The Dow notched another record closing high.
