Optimism Abounds

Monday, stocks rose 1.9% in Asia and 1.8% in Europe. Markets were closed in the U.S. for Memorial Day.

Tuesday, stocks lost 0.6% in Europe but gained 0.3% in Asia and the U.S. on 19B shares traded. Precious metals gained 1% and their miners advanced 4 times that amount. The NASDAQ and S&P 500 each registered a record high close. The S&P 500 ended above 7500.

Wednesday, stocks advanced 1.1% in Asia but ended little changed in Europe and the U.S. on 19B shares traded. Precious metals fell 2% and their miners lost 3%.  The Dow, NASDAQ, and S&P 500 each logged a record high close. Apple ended above 310.

Thursday, stocks fell 1.0% in Asia and 0.5% in Europe but rose slightly in the U.S. on 20B shares traded. Precious metals rose 1% and their miners gained twice that amount. The Dow, NASDAQ, and S&P 500 each logged a record high close. IBM ended above 260.

Friday, stocks gained 1.9% in Asia but ended little changed in Europe and the U.S. on 24B shares traded. The Dow, NASDAQ, and S&P 500 each logged a record high close.
