Warsh Highlights Inflation

Thursday, stocks rose slightly in Asia but fell slightly in Europe and declined 0.4% in the U.S. on 15B shares traded. The VIX fell 5% to end at 14.51. Precious metals and their miners gained 1%. The S&P 500 index ended above 7700. IBM ended above 230.

Friday, stocks ended little changed in Asia, rose 0.5% in Europe, and declined 0.3% in the U.S. on 16B shares traded. Precious metals fell 2% and their miners lost twice that amount. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh maintained his hawkish bias in his speech at Jackson Hole.
