Gold Rises above $2000 per Ounce

Monday, stocks in Asia ended nearly unchanged, closed unchanged in Europe but rose 0.7% in the U.S. on 11B shares traded. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield dropped 2% to close at 3.43. Tuesday, stocks closed down slightly in Asia, ended nearly unchanged in Europe, and fell 0.7% in the U.S. on 11B shares traded. Precious metals and their miners gained about 3% as gold advanced above the $2000 per ounce level.

Wednesday, stocks lost 0.3% in Asia but ended unchanged in Europe and the U.S. on 10B shares traded. The NASDAQ closed below its 12,000 benchmark while the S&P 500 ended below 4100.

Thursday, stocks fell 0.6% in Asia rose 0.5% in Europe and ended little changed in the U.S. on 9B shares traded. The NASDAQ and S&P 500 closed above their respective 12,000 and 4100 benchmarks.

Friday, stocks in fell slightly Asia rose 0.5% in Europe. Markets were closed in the U.S. in observance of Good Friday. Finally, the Federal Reserve balance sheet declined 74B to 8.63T.
