Dollar Slides as Stocks Soar

Monday, stocks fell 2.1% in Asia, 1.0% in Europe, and 0.5% in the U.S. on mammoth volume.

Tuesday, stocks gained 0.9% in Asia, 0.7% in Europe, and 1.0% in the U.S. on massive volume. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield shot up 11% to close at 0.93. Precious metals and their miners jumped up 4%. The S&P 500 Index logged a record closing high. Apple recaptured its 120 closing benchmark.

Wednesday, stocks were unchanged in Europe but gained 0.4% in Asia and 0.3% the U.S. on extremely high volume. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield gained 2% to close at 0.95. The S&P 500 index ended with another closing record high.

Thursday, stocks again were unchanged in Europe but rose 0.9% in Asia and slightly in the U.S. on extremely high volume. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield fell 3% to close at 0.92. This day was the NASDAQ’s turn to log a record close.

Friday, stocks gained 0.6% in Asia, 0.7% in Europe, 1.4% in the U.S. on extremely high volume. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield moved up 5% to close at 0.97. True to form, just in time for the weekend, the Dow, S&P 500, and NYSE indices ended the week at record closing highs.
