Stocks Surge Higher

Monday, stocks rose 1.2% in Asia 0.8% in Europe, and 1.6% in the U.S. on strong volume. The VXO fell 9% to close at 28.20. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield shot up 9% to close at 0.76. Precious metals and their miners gained about 2%. The Dow, NASDAQ, and S&P ended above their 28,000, 11,000, and 3400 benchmarks respectively.

Tuesday, stocks gained 0.9% in Asia, closed unchanged in Europe, and fell 0.9% in the U.S. on very high volume. The VXO rose 6% to 29.86. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield fell 3% to close at 0.74. Precious metals fell 2% and their miners gave back about twice that amount. The Dow and S&P ended below their respective 28,000, and 3400 benchmarks.

Wednesday, stocks rose 0.8% in Asia, closed little changed in Europe, and gained 1.6% in the U.S. on high volume. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield gained 6% to close at 0.78. Precious metals gained about 1%. The Dow, S&P, and NYSE ended above their respective 28,000, 3400, and 13,000 benchmarks as the FOMC minutes noted that investment risk-taking was excessive.

Thursday, stocks gained 0.7% in Asia, 0.8% in Europe, and 1.1% and in the U.S. on high volume. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield fell 3% to close at 0.76. Precious metals gained 1% and their miners gained about twice that amount. IBM announced a spin off and shot up to close above the 130 benchmark.

Friday, stocks gained slightly in Asia, rose 0.6% in Europe, and 0.5% in the U.S. on high volume. The VXO fell 7% to close at 24.55. Precious metals gained 3% and their miners gained about twice that amount.
