Stocks Buoyed By Powell Statement

Monday, stocks closed up in Asia slightly, up 0.4% in Europe, and up 0.6% in the U.S. on strong volume. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond rate fell 3% to close at 2.08. Precious metals gained 2% while their miners moved up twice that amount.

Tuesday, stocks closed little changed in Asia, gained 0.5% in Europe, and shot up 1.8% in the U.S. on moderate volume. The VXO fell 10% to close at 18.61. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond rate rose 2% to close at 2.12. The Dow Jones Industrial again closed above 25,000 and the S&P closed above the 2800 benchmark. The big news came from Fed Chair Powell’s pledge to support the economy through rough waters related to the trade war.

Wednesday stocks rose 0.9% in Asia, 0.3% in Europe, and 0.4% in the U.S. on moderate volume. The VXO fell 5% to close at 17.62. Apple closed higher to retake the 180 benchmark.

Thursday stocks closed little changed in Asia and Europe. In the U.S., they rose 0.5% on moderate volume. Friday stocks rose 0.5% in Asia, 0.9% in Europe, and 0.7% on moderate volume. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond rate fell 2% to 2.08. Apple closed above the 190 benchmark.
