Cryptocurrency Carnage

Monday, stocks in Asia fell 0.8% but closed little changed in Europe. Markets were closed in the U.S. for Labor Day. Tuesday, stocks fell slightly in Asia, 0.7% in Europe, and 0.4% in the U.S. on moderate volume. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury Bond yield rose 2% to end at 2.90. Precious metals dropped 1% and their miners lost three times that amount.

Wednesday, stocks fell in Asia 1.6% and in Europe 1.2% but closed nearly unchanged in the U.S. on strong volume. The VXO rose 11% to close at 12.33. Cryptocurrencies took a beating — losing about 25% in a single day.

Thursday, stocks in Asia and Europe fell 0.5%. In the U.S., stocks fell 0.3% on moderate volume. The VX0 moved up 8% to close at 13.32. Friday, stocks in Europe closed nearly unchanged while those in Asia and the U.S. declined slightly on moderate volume. The VXO rose 6% to close at 13.66. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury Bond yield rose 2% to end at 2.94.
