Thursday, stocks rose 1.3% in Asia but fell 1.2% in Europe and declined slightly in the U.S. on 17B shares traded. The VIX rose 12% to end at 18.7. Precious metals lost 3%, but their miners dropped 2%. The Dow and S&P 500 closed below their 52,000 and 7500 benchmarks respectively.
Friday, stocks fell 2.6% in Asia but rose 0.9% in Europe and 0.5% in the U.S. on 15B shares traded. Precious metals gained about 1%. NASDAQ closed below its 25,000 benchmark. Apple and IBM ended above 330 and 210 respectively.
