FOMC Holds Rates Unchanged

Monday, stocks ended unchanged in Europe bu closed up 0.9% in Asia and 0.5% in the U.S. on 16B shares traded. Precious metals and their miners gained 1%. The Dow and NYSE closed above their respective 52,000 24,000 levels. The NYSE logged a record closing high.

Tuesday, stocks fell 3.7% in Asia but rose 0.3% in Europe 0.5% and in the U.S. on 18B shares traded. Precious metals and their miners lost 2%. Apple and IBM closed above their respective 340 and 220 benchmarks. The NYSE logged another record closing high.

Wednesday, stocks lost 1.0% in Asia, 0.4% in Europe, 1.2% and in the U.S. on 18B shares traded. The VIX jumped up 13% to end at 20.66 and land in the fear zone as the FOMC voted to hold rates unchanged for now. The Dow, S&P 500, and NYSE closed below 52,000, 7400, and 24,000 respectively. Apple ended below its 340 benchmark.

Thursday, stocks closed unchanged  in Asia but gained 0.8% in Europe and the U.S. on 19B shares traded. The VIX snapped down 17% to end at 17.09 and land back in the greed zone. Precious metals gained 2% and their miners advanced twice that amount. Dow, NASDAQ, S&P 500, and NYSE closed above their respective 52,000, 25,000, 7400, and 24,000 levels. Apple ended below its 340 benchmark. The NYSE logged another record closing high.

Friday, stocks shot up 7.2% in Asia but ended little changed in Europe and the U.S. on 21B shares traded. The VIX fell 6% to end at 15.99. Precious metals fell 2% and their miners gave back 3%. Apple closed below its 310 benchmark. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield rose 2% to end at 4.74.
