Stocks and Politics Churn

Monday, stocks fell 0.4% in Europe but rose 0.4% in Asia and 0.5% in the U.S. on 17B shares traded. Precious metals climbed 1%. The Dow and NYSE each notched record closing high ending above 53,000 and 24,000 respectively. The NASDAQ and S&P 500 closed above their respective 26,000 and 7500 benchmarks. Apple and IBM ended above 310 and 290 respectively.

Tuesday, stocks lost 1.4% in Asia, 0.7%in Europe, and declined slightly in the U.S. on 18B shares traded. Precious metals fell 2% and their miners lost twice that amount. The Dow and NASDAQ fell to end below their respective 53,000 and 26,000 levels. IBM ended above its 300 benchmark.

Wednesday, stocks fell 0.8% in Asia, 1.6% in Europe, and 0.9% in the U.S. on 18B shares traded. The VIX rose 5% to end at 16.90. The S&P 500 and NYSE closed below 7500 and 24,000 respectively.

Thursday, stocks ended unchanged in Asia but gained 0.8% in Europe and 0.4% in the U.S. on 16B shares traded. The VIX fell 6% to end at 15.84. Precious metals rose 1% and their miners advanced three times that amount. IBM ended below 300.

Friday, stocks rose 0.8% in Asia but ended unchanged in Europe and up slightly in the U.S. on 15B shares traded. The VIX fell 5% to end at 15.03. The NASDAQ closed 26,000 and the S&P 500 ended above 7400. IBM closed below 290.
