Gold Corrects

Monday, stocks gained 0.8% in Asia, 0.4% in Europe, and 0.9% in the U.S. on 18B shares traded. The VIX rose 14% to close at 23.51. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield fell 2% to end at 4.22. Gold closed below 5000. 

Tuesday, stocks rose 0.9% in Asia, 0.7% in Europe, and 0.3% in the U.S. on 17B shares traded. The VIX fell 5% to end at 22.37. Precious metals fell 1%. The S&P 500 index ended above 6700. IBM closed above its 250 benchmark.

Wednesday, stocks rose 2.1% in Asia, fell 0.8% in Europe, and fell 1.4% in the U.S. on 20B shares traded. The VIX gained 12% to end at 25.09. Precious metals fell 4% and their miners dropped 6%. The S&P 500 index ended below 6700. Apple closed below 250. The FOMC met and held interest rates unchanged.

Thursday, stocks lost 3.0% in Asia, 2.4% in Europe, and 0.3% in the U.S. on 20B shares traded. Precious metals plummeted 5% and their miners followed suit giving up 6%.

Friday, stocks fell 0.4% in Asia, 1.8% in Europe, and 1.5% in the U.S. on 28B shares traded. Precious metals plummeted another 5% and their miners retreated 3%. The S&P 500 index ended below 6600. IBM closed below its 250 benchmark. For the week, gold lost 10% ending in the 4500 range.
