Bitcoin ETF Approved

Monday, stocks fell 0.3% in Asia, ended unchanged in Europe, and rose 0.8% in the U.S. on 12B shares traded. Precious metals lost about 1%. The S&P 500 index closed over 4700 while IBM ended above its 160 benchmark.

Tuesday, stocks rose 0.3% in Asia, fell slightly in Europe, and lost 0.7% in the U.S. on 11B shares traded. Precious metals miners fell 2%.

Wednesday, stocks ended little changed in Asia, fell slightly in Europe but rose 0.3% in the U.S. on 10B shares traded. The big news for the day came when the SEC finally approved Bitcoin ETFs. Interestingly, the news ended up propelling Ethereum about 15% higher while slightly “selling the news” for Bitcoin.

Thursday, stocks gained 1.3% in Asia, lost 0.8% in Europe, and fell slightly in the U.S. on 12B shares traded. The December CPI numbers came in little changed.

Friday, stocks rose 0.3% in Asia and 0.8% in Europe but ended little change in the U.S. on 11B shares traded. Precious metals gained 1% while their miners advanced about three times that amount. Finally, the Federal Reserve balance sheet advanced 6B to 7.69T.
