Stocks Bounce Back from Early Weakness

Monday, stocks declined 0.3% in Asia, 1.0 % in Europe, and 1.1% in the U.S. on 11B shares traded. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield rose 2% to end at 4.68. Precious metals and their miners lost 2%.

Tuesday, stocks fell 1.6% in Asia, 1.0% in Europe, and 1.2% in the U.S. on 11B shares traded. The VIX moved up 12% to close at 19.78. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield rose 3% to end at 4.80.

Wednesday, stocks fell 1.1% in Asia, ended little changed in Europe, and gained slightly in the U.S. on 11B shares traded. The VIX fell 6% to end at 18.58.

Thursday, stocks rose 1.0% in Asia and ended up slightly in Europe but closed unchanged in the U.S. on 11B shares traded.

Friday, stocks gained 0.7% in Asia, 0.8% in Europe, and 0.9% in the U.S. on 11B shares traded. Precious metals gained 1% while their miners advanced twice that amount. Finally, the Federal Reserve balance sheet declined 44B to 7.96T.
