Stocks Slip

Monday, stocks dropped 2.7% in Asia and 0.7% in Europe and the U.S. on 11B shares traded. The VIX moved up 6% to close at 19.43. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield rose 3% to close at 3.63. The NASDAQ ended the day below the 12,000 level.

Tuesday, stocks rose 0.3% in Asia, moved up slightly in Europe, and gained 0.8% in the U.S. on 12B shares traded. The Dow Jones Industrials, NASDAQ, NYSE indices ended the day above their 34,000, 12,000 and 16,000 levels respectively.

Wednesday, stocks rose 0.8% in Asia and moved up slightly in Europe but fell 0.5% in the U.S. on 11B shares traded. The VIX moved up 5% to close at 19.63. The Dow Jones Industrials, NASDAQ, NYSE indices ended the day below their 34,000, 12,000 and 16,000 levels respectively. And for a bit of good news, the price of eggs should be falling soon.

Thursday, stocks rose 0.6% in Asia and 0.7% in Europe but fell 0.7% in the U.S. on 12B shares traded. The VIX moved up 6% to transition back to the fear range — closing at 20.71. Precious metals fell 1% and their miners gave back twice that amount. S&P 500 index ended below the 4100 level.

Friday, stocks lost 1.0% in Asia and 0.9% in Europe but gained 0.5% in the U.S. on 11B shares traded. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield rose 2% to close at 3.74. Cryptocurrencies slipped about 10%. Finally, the Federal Reserve balance sheet gained $1B to 8.44T.
