Stocks Retreat as Fear Returns

Monday, stocks ros 1.0% in Asia but fell 0.5% in Europe and 1.9% in the U.S. on 11B shares traded. The VIX moved up 9% to close at 20.75 and pivot back to the fear region. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield rose 3% to close at 3.60. Precious metals gained 2% while their miners advanced twice that amount. The Dow Jones Industrials and the S&P 500 indices closed below their respective 34,000 and 4000 levels. Here’s more evidence that masks are useless in preventing the spread of Fauci Flu.

Tuesday, stocks dropped 1.3% in Asia, 0.5% in Europe, and 1.0% in the U.S. on 11B shares traded. The VIX rose 7% to close at 22.17.

Wednesday, stocks lost 1.7% in Asia, 0.6% in Europe but ended little changed in the U.S. on 10B shares traded. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield fell 3% to close at 3.41. The NASDAQ ended below its 11,000 benchmark.

Thursday, stocks ended little changed in Europe but gained 1.1% in Asia and 0.6% in the U.S. on 10B shares traded. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield rose 2% to close at 3.49.The NASDAQ ended back above its 11,000 benchmark.

Friday, stocks rose 1.8% in Asia and 0.8% in Europe but fell 0.7% in the U.S. on 10B shares traded. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield rose 2% to close at 3.57. The November PPI numbers came in higher than expected.  Finally, the Federal Reserve balance sheet declined just 2B to 8.58T.
