Treasury Bond Yields Rise

Monday, stocks fell slightly in Asia, gained 0.7% in Europe, and fell 0.4% in the U.S. on low volume. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield rose 3% to close at 1.55. Tuesday, stocks rose 0.5% in Asia, fell 1.1% in Europe, and lost 1.5% in the U.S. on light volume. The VXO shot up 18% to 22.49. Precious metals gained 1% and their miners moved up three time that amount. IBM slid to close below the 140 benchmark.

Wednesday, stocks fell 0.5% in Asia, gained 0.5% in Europe, and gained 0.8% in the U.S. on low volume. The VXO fell 9% to close at 20.51. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield moved up 3% to end the day at 1.59.

Thursday, stocks closed little changed in Asia but gained 0.7% in Europe and 0.5% in the U.S. on light volume. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield shot up 4% to close at 1.66. Apple and IBM closed up to recapture their 230 and 140 benchmarks respectively. Precious metals closed down 1%.

Friday, stocks moved up sharply — rising 2% in Asia and Europe and 1.3% in the U.S. on moderate volume. The VXO declined 13% to close at 17.12. Precious metals miners dropped 4%. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield blasted 6% higher to close at 1.75. This positive energy propelled the NASDAQ back above the 8000 benchmark.
