Thursday, stocks closed little changed in Asia but gained 0.7% in Europe and 0.5% in the U.S. on light volume. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield shot up 4% to close at 1.66. Apple and IBM closed up to recapture their 230 and 140 benchmarks respectively. Precious metals closed down 1%.
Friday, stocks moved up sharply — rising 2% in Asia and Europe and 1.3% in the U.S. on moderate volume. The VXO declined 13% to close at 17.12. Precious metals miners dropped 4%.
