Week Fifty-Two

Grace Week Fifty-Two

Grace Week Fifty-Two

Grace never made it into our bed. When I got up at 6:10, Grace was lying on the floor next to Betsy’s side of the bed. At 6:50, Grace threw up in the master suite hallway. It didn’t amount to much but did include a weeping willow leaf and some wood chips. It’s interesting to note that the previous time she vomited, as I recall, was shortly after receiving heartworm medicine.

Morning Gathering

After we arrived, we went out walking. We met Lucy and Bogey. Grace raced to Borador Park to start the play time. When they all were there, Lucy wanted to play chase, but Grace was more fixated on playing fetch with the balls. Lucy joined in chasing Grace some as Grace fetched the balls. After fifteen minutes, Abby came in to join the fun. Shortly after Abby’s arrival, Lucy and Bogey left.

Abby started out a bit subdued (for her), but after about fifteen minutes was back to her rambunctious self again. Next came Sadie. Grace and Sadie got some good wrestling and chasing in despite the crowd. Finally, Olivia and Rascal came in. The play continued until 8:45 when everyone ushered out at once.

Home Alone

When we came home at 8:55, Grace had her breakfast. After breakfast, she had a little ice cream from a nearly empty container followed by a dental chew. Grace then jumped up on her sofa for a nap. We left her there as Betsy and I headed out at 10:10.

When we returned at 12:55, Grace was where we left her. We greeted and praised her. Grace had her lunch and lay in the kitchen as Betsy prepared lunch. After we ate our lunch, Grace did tricks for chicken scraps. At 1:25, she went outside on the balcony lounge chair. The clouds rolled in blocking the sun and allowing her to stay out in the heat longer than usual. At 1:45, she came in and lay alternately in the foyer and kitchen depending on where she could best keep an eye on me.

Fun in the Great Outdoors

At 2:35, we went out. Grace went straight to Grace Beach. Grace did her usual but especially loved the warm water, bright sunshine, and refreshing breeze. She broke away to meet one black dog being walked. After greeting the dog, she returned for more play. At 3:20, Betsy joined us.

We headed back at 3:40. Grace did a lot of rolling and sliding down the hill. She ran ahead and out of sight. This time, I found her at the end of the sidewalk by the parking lot. There she let me leash her. Betsy then came up to take her while I headed home. When they returned at 4:15, Grace came in and went straight to the balcony to watch for friends.

At 5:00, Grace had her supper. We left her home alone a few minutes later. When we returned at 7:00, Grace came out from the office to greet us with wags and kisses. She wanted lots of attention. She had a dental chew, a doggie treat, and then ate popcorn with us to satisfy her munchies. It was raining outside, so she couldn’t go play with friends. I played shortstop with her for about an hour.

I then retreated to my bed as the television was so loud it was making my ears ring. Grace joined me there a few minutes later. After about an hour though, Grace was back on the floor for the rest of the night.

Monday

At 5:45, I got up to use the bathroom. Grace was lying in the master suite hallway. She went to the office ottoman to watch out the window. I went back to bed. At 6:45, I got up. We went to Borador Park ten minutes later.

Designated Playmate

It was like Grace’s job was to be at the park to play with the other dogs as they came for their morning exercise. First it was Lucy and Boggie. Lucy again was more playful than Grace. Grace seemed more interested in her ball than playing with Lucy. The best we could do was to get Grace to fetch the ball. That way, Grace would run after the ball and retrieve it and Lucy would chase Grace. Boggie sat on the bench with me.

After about a half hour, they left. I took Grace out for a short walk on the ground while we awaited the next friend. Grace then spotted Olivia and Rascal. Grace rushed back to the playground to resume her mission of the hour. Again, fetch was the best way to stimulate some play.

Fifteen minutes later, Sadie came in. With a bit of effort, she sparked some high-energy action from Grace. Grace evaded Sadie by crouching like a Border Collie and darting around the hollow log. When Sadie was too rough or Grace wanted to catch her breath, she shot under the bench. It amounts to a safe place for her. After five minutes, Olivia and Rascal left. About ten minutes later, Sadie also left.

Grace sat calmly, panting an smiling at the same time. The warmth from the morning sun filled the air. As she relaxed contentedly, she spotted another friend. It was Abby. They really did not mix it up much but did pursue each other a bit based on which dog had the favorite ball. They also chased the ball as various owners threw it.

Then a new dog showed up. It was a Flat-Coat Retriever named Bella. The dog was sweet, gentle, and playful. The first meeting always is a bit restrained, but she seemed to be a dog that eventually would enjoy playing with Grace. Bella left after fifteen minutes and Beckhan came to replace her. He stayed ten minutes. Abby’s owner petted him and he did his usual fixation on bugs that fly around the tree.

After Beckham left, Abby’s owner combed her for about fifteen minutes before leaving. Grace left five minutes later. Her morning assignment was done.

Recharging

When we returned home at 9:10, Grace had her breakfast. She then stretched out on her sofa for her morning nap. Betsy had left to go shopping. I left her alone on the sofa as I went out running. When I returned at 10:15, she was still there. We greeted each other happily.

Shortly after my shower at 11:00, Betsy returned from shopping. I went down to get bags of groceries still in the car. After the second load, Betsy said that Grace cried when I was gone. I didn’t realize I needed to tell her good-bye when I went out for a few minutes.

At 11:15, Grace stretched off of her sofa and went out on the sunny balcony. Betsy commented that would not last long. I told her five to ten minutes would be about it. Five minutes later, Grace came in and lay in the foyer to cool down. At 12:15, I went to the kitchen. Grace followed me to let me know it was time for her lunch. After lunch, Grace had scraps from an empty doggie treat bag and then proceeded to shred that box before returning to her sofa.

At 1:30, the tenant upstairs decided to play around on an electric guitar. Despite concrete floors, the noise still makes it through. Of course, if they didn’t need to turn the amplifier up so high, the noise would be contained. It seemed to disturb Grace. At 2:00,  she moved to the foyer where she lay as she waited for her afternoon outing.

Beach Fun

At 2:40, we left. Grace went to Grace Beach of course. The water level was up from the heavy rain Sunday night. That gave us less beach to work with and covered over the many holes Grace had dug the previous week. We played the usual games. I threw one waterlogged stick out in the deep. She had trouble finding it. She went out near where it landed and circled. I told her to leave it. Then, somehow she found it. It taught me to make sure the things I throw into the deep will float.

After about forty minutes, two college age girls paddled up in kayaks. Grace greeted them briefly and moved on to serious fetch play. At 3:35, she spotted their boats on the beach and barked at them. I followed her and decided to head home. She was a bit of a problem, going beyond the normal sidewalk up to the apartments but not as far as the second. She finally returned to me and allowed me to leash her. As we approached our building, she did the squirming.  Betsy took her and I went inside.

Labor Day Picnic

At 4:10, they returned, and Grace had her bath. Sunday, we missed the bath after she went to the lake so today Betsy used some mild soap. After her bath and a treat, she went balcony as usual. Grace ate her supper, and at 4:40, we all left for a Labor Day picnic. Grace watched as they played softball. She went to a gap in the fence and wanted to go in. I restrained her.

We leashed her near the picnic table and put her water dish there. A nice man gave Grace half of a hamburger that fell on the ground. Grace was grateful. After dinner, we sang a couple hymns including “Amazing Grace” which Grace appreciated for her first church service. After the devotional, Grace cleaned up scraps under the picnic tables. Then I grabbed a tennis ball from the trunk and took Grace to the ball field.

The young people had a good time throwing balls and watching Grace streak after them, devouring the closely manicured turf. Her first attempt of catching a ball had her overrun it and do an impressive aerial flip. She raced repeatedly across the bulk of the outfield chasing down balls. After fifteen minutes, Grace was overheating in the 80 degree humid environment.

I took her back to her water dish where she drank and lay on the concrete — panting very fast. Betsy poured cool water over her to help her cool down. After ten minutes, we brought her to an air conditioned car and drove her home. When we made it home, Grace got out of the car and plopped down in the grass to rest and cool down.

Missed Date

She did some more squirming and eventually noticed Abby and Sadie playing up in the dog park. We didn’t let her go because she had overheated earlier and had plenty of exercise. Once we made it upstairs, we gave Grace a shower to cool her down. After Betsy gave her a treat, Grace went to the balcony.

When she came in, I gave her a dental chew. When she finished, she returned to the balcony to watch as the evening dog-fest was in full swing minus one key player — Grace. She alternated between the foyer and balcony wanting to join in, but we did not take her. At 8:20, she finally gave up, got up on the sofa and went to sleep.

At 9:15, we went out for the last time. We walked past the park. Of course, Grace wanted to go in, but we moved on. We met Chowder. His owner asked when we went to the dog park because she said that Chowder loves Grace. I told her the times. We moved on and eventually made it back home at 9:35. Grace went to the bedroom and got up in bed. She stay there for about ten minutes before coming back to her sofa as I prepared for bed. I went to bed at 9:50 with Grace on her sofa.

Tuesday

Grace stayed on the sofa until about 5:45. Then she came in to the master suite and lay down in the hallway there. At 6:35, we got up. Grace was ready to go. At 6:45, we headed off for Borador Park. The first to visit were Olivia and Rascal. They stayed about fifteen minutes. After they left, Sadie came in. Grace and Sadie played with energy for about ten minutes. Sadie left at 7:20. At 8:15, Beckham came. Grace played with Beckham’s owner while Beckham carefully marked territory and mused over bees.

Borador Puppy Talk

Grace returned home at 8:20. She had breakfast and proceeded with her morning nap. After I waxed Grace’s front paw pads, we headed downstairs at 9:20 but stopped to talk to a neighbor who expressed interest in adopting one of Grace’s puppies if and when she has some. I hope to have families lined up to take all of her Borador puppies, find a suitable Borador sire, and give her the experience of having a litter to care for either this coming heat or the following one.

One requirement I’m making is that we be living in our new house before she gives birth. Our house should take about six months to build. Anyone interested in getting on a waiting list for a Borador puppy or providing a male to mate with Grace should contact me as soon as possible. Boradors make excellent pets and would also be excellent herding dogs as well as great bird dogs. They do need lots of time each day to be active outside.

Morning Run

We headed off to Salem Pond Park. On the way, I stopped at a couple of banks and left Grace in the car. She waited there patiently. When we finally arrived at the park, the sunny weather and pleasant temperature made the outing particularly fun for Grace. Since it had rained recently, she could drink from the overflow pipe near the entrance. She took dips in the pond as needed to cool down. The meadow was clear and nicely mowed. After a half hour, we returned to the car.

Grace immediately wanted to move to some other spot rather than the passenger seat. The reason was that the sun was shining on her there. I insisted though and she complied. We went off to a few stores to look for a couple of items. It turned out I could not find them, so we finally went home.

Recharging

At 11:45, after Grace delayed by lying in the grass, we went up to the apartment. Grace promptly went out on the balcony. After five minutes, she came in and jumped up in the living room chair. At noon Grace had her lunch. After lunch, she wanted more. I gave her a doggie treat. She stretched out on the kitchen floor until I finished in there. She then went to her sofa to begin her napping.

At 1:35, Grace was in dreamland — stretched out on the sofa, lying on her back, but with her chest toward the sofa and her front legs outstretched. She reminded me of Superman in his flying position. Suddenly, the last third of her tail started wagging. She must have been having a happy dream because the the tail beat rapidly and audibly. I saw no other movements. A couple minutes later, she changed positions and that dream was over.

Beach Fun

At 2:15, Grace got off of her sofa and let me know she was ready to go. She shredded a box from her toy box and then gave me the chomp-chomp gesture. I gave her a little of the new lamb adult dog food that Betsy just bought as a reward treat. Grace took me to Grace Beach. She did the usual fetch shallow, shortstop, catch, and fetch deep. One stick sunk. I told Grace “Leave it,” and she came back.

Grace broke off to chase a lady walking. She had a bright blue outfit on. Perhaps that’s what spooked her. She did her usual fast run to the object and then tail-wagging, tongue-hanging-out greeting. At 3:35, we left. Grace spotted a Labrador Retriever mix and played with it while it was on the leash. The owner of the other dog was amazed at how Grace sensed his dog’s anxiety and approached him in such a non-threatening way.

Friends Watch and Play

Grace followed the other dog until I caught up with her and leashed her. When returned back to the apartment at 3:55, Grace had her shower followed by a treat. As usual, she went on the balcony. She spotted a worker with a strange hat cutting some brush. That was enough to start a barking session. I assured her it was okay, and she stopped.

At 4:45, Grace spotted Abby in the park. We raced to meet her. They played some, but the play was a bit difficult with Abby as Grace cannot read her snarls and growls. Grace finds them intimidating coming from such a big dog and apparently Abby intends them to mean that she wants to play. At 5:05 Abby left. At 5:15, Betsy drove up, and we returned home. Grace came in and went to the sofa for some much-needed napping.

 Supper and Final Outing

At 6:00, she slid off of her sofa and stared me down. She hadn’t been given her supper. I gave it to her. After supper, she pulled out a Chuck-It! ball and gave me a chomp. I gave her a dental chew. While Betsy prepared supper and while we ate, Grace insisted on playing shortstop. After dinner, I gave her a doggie treat and some new dog food. At 6:50, she went out on the balcony to watch for friends. There was a little dog in the park along with four young girls playing with it. Grace wanted to go, but it was a bit early, and I didn’t think it was worth it.

At 7:10, Grace came inside from the hot humid air and lay on the foyer floor. At 7:15, Abby and Sadie were in the park playing. We rushed down to meet them. Grace played some, but the play wasn’t particularly spirited. Abby left at 7:30. Sadie and Grace never really got going. Sadie left at 7:45. At 8:00 Olivia and Rascal came. Grace played with Olivia’s owner. At 8:15, all dogs left. Grace came home and went straight to her sofa. That’s where she was when I went to bed at 9:30.

Wednesday

Grace was on the floor in the master suite hallway at 5:35 and still there when the alarm clock sounded at 6:40. Grace was ready to go. There were not tummy rubs today — just a few kisses. She stood up and stretched. Then she waited for me indicating her desire to get moving. As we headed down the stairs, we could hear Olivia howling in the background. Grace raced to Borador Park to meet her friends.

Grace Owns It

Grace played fetch with Olivia’s owner. They left at 7:10. Sadie came in a few minutes later. Grace was the one initiating the play this time. Usually, it’s Sadie. They played hard for about ten minutes. Five minutes later, Sadie left. We took a short walk in the grass and returned to the park. At 7:45, Beckham came in. Grace played fetch with Beckham’s owner. Beckham joined the chase a few times but was mainly interested in bees and sniffs. They left at 7:55. After Grace caught her breath, we returned home at 8:00.

At 8:40, we headed out for the park. There we met a lady who frequents the park with her dog. She commented that Grace owns the park based on her mastery of it’s territory. Based on that comment, it is only appropriate that we rename the park from Salem Pond Park to Borador Pond Park. Grace breezed down the path and through the meadow enjoying the sunshine and fresh air.

Errands

When I finished my plodding run, we returned to the car and headed off to do errands. After as short stop at the grocery store, Grace waited patiently. We stopped by the land and Grace got out to explore. When I called her back ten minutes later, she came right away. We went on to the post office and the grocery store before returning home at 10:00. Grace slept on the loveseat.

At noon she had lunch followed by a doggie treat and a handful of her adult food that we’re using as a treat. She played shortstop with me as I worked in the kitchen preparing my food. After a short shredding session she went to her sofa to take her afternoon  nap. At 1:30, there was a knock on the door. It was a delivery man. Grace didn’t bark. After I received the package, Grace went out on the balcony.

Dog Attraction

At 1:40, she went to the foyer to cool off. At 2:15, Grace moved to the dining room and let out a whine and anxious yawn. She wanted to go. I told her to wait. She lay her head down and whimpered. She then proceeded out on the balcony. At 2:30, we went out. Grace took me to Grace Beach. She did the usual.

At 3:40, I leashed Grace, and we headed back. Grace wanted to walk in the big field. We circled back to the lake outlet area. When we made it back to to the path, Grace decided to plant herself in the grass. When someone came toward us on the path, Grace decided to follow her. She said she was born in the Year of the Dog.

Perhaps that explains Grace’s affinity toward her. Grace followed her past the first sidewalk, so we proceeded the second. There were enough interesting scents there to divert her attention from the lady. I tried to run to make faster progress when we moved in a positive direction.

Playful Pup

We made it home at 4:00. I prepared to go for a meeting at 5:30 and left Grace home alone at 4:45. When I returned at 7:00, I praised her and gave her a treat. She came to me and gave me kisses. We noticed she had taken various toys out to play with while we were gone — including a puppy toy. Grace wanted to play. We played the shortstop game for about a half hour.

At 7:45, Betsy took her out to Borador Park. Betsy said the whole gang was there and Grace had a great time playing. At 8:40, Grace returned home panting. She went straight out on the balcony. She came in ten minutes later and planted herself on her sofa. At 9:50, I went to bed. Grace and Betsy followed a few minutes later.

Thursday

Grace stayed with us in bed until about 5:30 when she got up and waited on the bedroom hall floor. At 6:40, the alarm clock sounded. I got up at 6:50. We met Sadie at Borador Park at 7:00. They played for ten minutes before Olivia and Rascal came. That put a damper on things. All dogs but Grace left around 7:20. Five minutes later Otis came. He and Grace got along fine although they didn’t play together.

Stir Crazy

At 7:30, Beckham came to the door. Otis went crazy. The fur along the top of his back stood up on end. Beckham returned the aggression. Once Beckham came inside, Otis was okay and began to calm down. Play amounted to owners throwing the ball and Grace retrieving it. Beckham left after ten minutes. At 7:45, Abby showed up. That was too much for Otis, who left to make way for Abby.

Grace had the prized ball and was able to out-fetch Abby for it when it was thrown. Eventually, Abby got it by stealing it when Grace put it down for the human to throw it. Grace actually tried a little halfhearted roughhousing with Abby, but it wasn’t much. Abby left at 8:00. Grace did the same a few minutes later. When we returned home, Grace had her breakfast and got into the living room chair to nap.

Daily Run

At 8:45, we left to go for our run at Borador Pond Park. I prepared her water bowl, but forgot it on the way out. After we arrived, Grace jumped upon the picnic table and I poured it into my cupped hand for her to drink. It worked okay. All went smoothly on a beautiful sunny morning. When we returned to the car, Grace positioned herself on the floor by the air conditioning outlet. She stayed there until we pulled into the parking lot at home.

When we returned at 10:10, Grace had her shower and then went to the living room chair to nap. At 10:30, she moved to her sofa for serious napping. At noon, Grace had lunch followed by a doggie treat, another treat, and a dental chew. She then went outside on the still-sunny balcony. At 12:55, the hot puppy came in and lay on the foyer floor to cool off and wait for her next adventure.

 Afternoon Fun

At 1:35, as painters worked on ladders outside our balcony and I lay on the floor by the balcony, Grace came and lay next to me. At 1:50, Grace whined a few times and went back to the foyer. At 2:40, we went out. Grace led me to Grace Beach. I sat in the shade. After a few minutes, Grace brought the tennis ball to me, and the playtime began. We played shortstop most of the time, but we also did a fair amount of fetch.

Returning home again was a bit of a problem as Grace wanted to stretch out her freedom. She ran ahead and followed a runner. The runner nicely turned and ran back to lead Grace to me. When Grace came into my area, he headed back. Grace slyly went into the woods to evade me. She made it to the second path up and thankfully stopped for me to leash her.

When we made it home at 4:00, Grace had another shower and went back to the balcony. At 4:15, she came in whimpered, and went to the foyer. There were no friends at the park, but at 4:45, we started up. I took some trash with me to dump off in the trash bin. When we arrived at the park, there were two little dogs there that were not interested in playing. After they left, Sadie showed up followed by Zeke and Olivia. Sadie left after about ten minutes.

At 5:45, I took Grace out to go to the office. I picked up a package. The manager asked if Grace could have a treat. Grace now knows that word. This is a milestone. Grace marched over to the treat jar and claimed her prize. The manager commented on how nice Grace was. Shortly after we returned to the dog park, the dogs left. Grace left too. She plopped down in the cool shady grass for about five minutes before coming home.

Evening at Home

Grace went out on the balcony until 6:30. Then she came in and let Betsy know it was time for her dinner. Betsy fed her and followed that with a dental chew. Grace whined while I ate. I told her to wait. When I finished, Grace did tricks for beef. Grace then went to the balcony and barked at two dogs below. I quieted her and finally brought her inside. After they left, Grace went back out on the balcony.

At 7:20, Grace found me in the kitchen and gave me the hungry look. I gave her a few treats. That satisfied her and she moved to the office ottoman to watch for when the evening dog-fest will begin. At 8:00, Grace went out on the balcony to watch for friends in the park. She barked at a little dog that was barking below. Grace came in at 8:15. Betsy gave her a moistened deer antler. Grace wanted to play. We played tug and fetch with a sock.

At 9:00, Grace went outside. She wanted to go into the park, but I told her no. Then Abby came out. They wanted to play, but Abby’s owner did not have time for that. She took Abby back inside in order to get control of the dogs. At 9:15, Grace came home and stretched out on her sofa. At 9:35, I went to bed.

Friday

The alarm clock sounded at 6:40. Betsy got up first and said good morning to her little Borador. I was next. Grace stood up and lavished me with kisses. At 6:55, we left for the park. Olivia and Rascal came in first. Grace mainly vied with Olivia for the big ball. After Olivia left, Abby came in for some morning play. Grace was less afraid of Abby today and Abby seemed to growl less aggressively. Grace and Abby mixed it up a bit. At 8:00, Abby left and Grace returned home.

Nutso Bark

At 8:05, Grace started her breakfast, but then heard some barking at the park. Grace responded with her nutso bark. That’s unusual. Grace rarely barks inside and normally when she does it’s in response to something odd she hears or sees. I checked outside. Sadie and Beckham were at the park. With Grace’s breakfast half-eaten, Grace raced back to the park to meet her friends.

The three dogs played for a minute or so. After they calmed down, Beckham left. Grace and Sadie really didn’t play much with each other after that. At 8:20, the dogs left and Grace returned home. After finishing her breakfast, she went out on the balcony to watch for friends.

Running Free

At 9:05, we headed back out to go for our morning run. Grace enjoyed running freely through freshly mown meadow in the bright sunshine. Along the way, she took a few short dips in the pond to cool off. When we finished we went to the land to meet the plumbers installing our well pump.

Grace did some digging of dirt next to the well and started to spray dirt our way. I had to tell her to stop. She went down and met up with Snoopy and ran through the lawn with him. She stayed away from the road, which was very comforting. Before we left she lay in the turf, squirmed, and relaxed. When I called, she came immediately and we rode back home.

Tolerating Indoors

At 11:00, we arrived home. Grace jumped up on the loveseat. I mentioned a bath to her, but decided against it since Grace had done a lot of self-cleaning in the grass at the lot. Grace proceeded to commence her morning nap in earnest. At 11:45, she moved to her sofa as the sleep-fest continued.

At noon, Grace had her lunch. She hung out on the kitchen floor while I was in there and moved to the foyer at 12:30. At 12:50, Grace went to the balcony door and looked at me. I let her out. She climbed up on the lounge chair in half shade and watched the activity. Fifteen minutes later, she whimpered, and I let her in. I don’t know if it was the sunshine and heat or the sickening laundry scent, but she came in directly and returned to the foyer.

Five minutes later, she was routing in her toy box to find something to allay her boredom. She started with the giraffe toy, then tried a Chuck-It! ball, but ended up with a baseball from which she had removed the cover. Grace wanted to play. I really didn’t have time but played sock with her for fifteen minutes. I was delayed waiting for a phone call. Grace waited in the foyer until I received my call.

Fresh Air

We left at 3:00. Grace took me to Grace Beach. There she did her own thing for a half hour. Then we played mainly shortstop with shallow ball fetch and deep stick fetch thrown in to mix it up. At 4:00, she tore off after a dog being walked. The dog was not friendly but very obedient to its owner. I leashed Grace when she came near.

We walked back though the level field to the lake outlet and back up the hill. Grace wanted to lie around and wiggle in the grass. I eventually had enough, shortened the leash and told her to heel. She followed reluctantly. When we returned home, I had forgotten she needed a shower, but she didn’t. Grace headed for the bathroom and took her shower. After her shower and treat, she went out on the balcony.

At 5:05, she spotted some dogs in the park. They were not fun friends. I told her we were not going.  At 5:10, she came in and had her supper. After supper she went back out to watch for friends. At 5:30, we went to the park. There Grace played with Abby and Zeke a bit. Other dogs there were Olivia, Rascal, and little Lucy the Dachshund. When Betsy pulled up at 6:00, Grace and I got into the car, and we headed out for dinner.

We just went a mile up the road to Moe’s. Grace enjoyed chips while Betsy and I had Burritos. A boy taunted Grace throwing a tennis ball against the wall of the restaurant. I finally moved away from the area and played shortstop with a tennis ball. When we returned home at 7:00, Grace went back on the balcony.

Sundowning

When Grace would see a dog, she would bark. I went out to calm her down each time. At 7:40, she came inside and started playing sock again. At 8:00, as I took a break she went to the office to look out the window from the ottoman. As I returned to the living room, there was Little Miss Playful. She was relentless. I tried tricks for treats. We went through all of her tricks and followed that with fetch ball and fetch puppy.

At 8:35, Grace went back out on the balcony. She stayed there until 9:15 when she came in and went to bed. I followed her at 9:30.

Saturday

At 5:00, Grace jumped down off of the bed. When I got up at 6:35, she was on the floor. She went out to park 6:50. Grace and Abby played first. When Abby left, Grace went for a short walk. After she returned,  Olivia and Rascal joined her followed by Beckham. Grace played fetch as Olivia and Beckham joined in occasionally. When Grace returned home 8:30, she had her breakfast, I went out running at 8:45 returned at 9:20. Grace lay on sofa while I was gone, but Betsy said Grace missed me. I had forgotten to tell her “Bye-Bye.”

Bored

As Betsy lavished affection toward her, Grace shied away and retreated to Sunny balcony. At 9:40, she returned inside to living room chair, but even that was too hot. Grace drank some water and went to foyer to cool down. At 9:55, Grace finished tearing some cardboard and then looked for a toy. She picked a ChuckIt! ball, tossed her Kong toy in the air, and let out a whimper. She was bored. I put some peanut butter in it and gave it to her to keep her occupied.

At 10:05 Grace finished her Kong and came back to me whimpering more. This time she presented me with a sock with which to play tug. I told her no and hugged her. She then grabbed her antler and started to work on it. The futility of that task struck her after about ten minutes. I then gave her a bully stick. At 10:30, after polishing off half of it, Grace went to the living room chair to settle in for a nap.

At noon, Grace had her lunch. While I studied, Grace napped. At 3:00, Grace took Betsy to Grace Beach. When they returned an hour later, Grace had her bath and a treat. She then made her usual trip to the balcony. At 5:15, Grace came in for supper followed by a medicated dental chew.
