Monday, stocks in Asia dropped 0.5% and in Europe 0.7%. In the U.S., stocks did nothing on very low volume. Tuesday, stocks in Asia rose 0.3%, in Europe 0.5%, and in the U.S. 0.4% on low volume. So far for the week, stocks have been treading water. Wednesday stocks in Asia closed unchanged, in Europe up 0.3%, and in the U.S. flat on low volume.
Thursday, stocks in Asia climbed 0.5%. Despite bleak European economic numbers, stocks there and in the U.S. closed flat on low moderate volume. IBM dipped to close just below the $200 per share mark. Here’s a good article giving a perspective of the week’s market performance. Friday, stocks dropped in Asia 0.3%, in Europe slightly, and in the U.S. slightly on high moderate volume as options expired. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury Bond rate moved up to 2.01. IBM clawed back to close at about $201 per share.
For the week, stocks went nowhere, but precious metals dropped about 5%.
