Stocks Pause as Trump Presidency Begins

Monday, stocks fell 0.7% in Asia and 0.9% in Europe. Markets were closed in the U.S. Tuesday, stocks rose in Asia 0.3% but fell 0.3% in Europe and the U.S. on strong volume. Precious metals gained 1.5% and their miners moved up twice that amount. A market mover for the day was a tweet from Donald Trump that the dollar was too strong .

Wednesday, stocks closed virtually unchanged in Asia, rose slightly in Europe, and closed unchanged in the U.S. on high volume. Thursday, stocks moved little around the world on moderate volume. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury Bond yield rose 3% to close at 2.46. Friday, stocks fell 0.5%, changed little in Europe, and rose 0.4% in the U.S. on strong volume. The VXO fell 10% to close at 10.50. Donald J. Trump was sworn in as the 45th President of the United States pledging to work relentlessly for the people and to put America first.
