Daily Record Highs

Monday, stocks rose 0.7% in Asia, gained slightly in Europe, and ended little changed in the U.S. on 18B shares traded. The VIX rose 5% to end at 16.12. Precious metals gained 2% as gold logged a record closing high. IBM closed below its 280 benchmark.

Tuesday, stocks gained 0.5% in Asia and Europe and rose 0.3% in the U.S. on 19B shares traded. The Dow and NYSE indices registered record closing highs. IBM closed above its 280 benchmark.

Wednesday, stocks advanced 0.3% in Asia, 1.2% in Europe, and 0.4% in the U.S. on 20B shares traded. Precious metals and their miners gained 1% as gold notched another record high close.The Dow and NYSE indices logged record closing highs. The S&P 500 closed above 6700 and notched a record closing high.

Thursday, stocks rose 1.6% in Asia, and 0.6% in Europe but fell slightly in the U.S. on 19B shares traded. Precious metals fell about 1%. The Dow registered another record closing high as well as the NASDAQ and S&P 500.

Friday, stocks gained 0.8% in Asia and 0.5% in Europe and the U.S. on 20B shares traded. Gold ended the week with another record high close. The Dow, S&P 500, and NYSE indices each registered record closing highs.
