Friday, stocks closed little changed in Asia but gained 1.1% in Europe, and rose slightly in the U.S. on 10B shares traded. Precious metals fell about 1%. Finally, the Federal Reserve balance sheet declined 53B to 8.63T — consistent with hawkish comments throughout the week on the need to keep the pressure on fighting inflation.
