Monday, stocks in Asia declined slightly. In Europe, they were little changed. Equities did not trade in the U.S.
Tuesday, stocks shot up 1.8% in Asia but were little changed in Europe. In the U.S. they gained 0.7% on massive volume. The VXO fell 7% to close at 21.51. Precious metals gained 2%. The NASDAQ closed above its 13,000 benhcmark.
Wednesday, stocks gained 1.2% in Asia and 0.7% in Europe and in the U.S. on massive volume. Apple and IBM closed above their 130 benchmarks. The Dow, NASDAQ, NYSE indices each set a new closing high.
Thursday, stocks in Asia gained 0.9% while stocks in Europe closed unchanged. In the U.S., they fell 0.5% on massive volume. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield gained 2% to close at 1.11. This time, the NASDAQ and S&P 500 as well as Apple logged record closing highs.
Friday, stocks fell 1.2% in Asia and 0.5% in Europe and the U.S. on massive volume. The VXO moved up 5% to close at 20.93. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield declined 2% to close at 1.09. Precious metals lost 2%. Right on queue, IBM fell 10% as the corporation reported, after the previous close, its latest disappointing quarterly results despite now customary creative accounting . The NYSE closed below its 15,000 benchmark. The NASDAQ and S&P 500 indices as well as Apple all set record closing highs.
