Quiet Week Before Christmas

Monday, stocks rose 1.5% in Asia but fell 0.5% in Europe and the U.S. on 18B shares traded. The VIX moved up 6% to end at 15.74. The S&P 500 Index ended below 6900, and IBM closed below its 310 benchmark.

Tuesday, stocks fell 0.8% in Asia and rose 0.7% in Europe but ended little changed in the U.S. on 17B shares traded. Precious metals gained 1%. The NYSE ended above its 22,000 benchmark. Clearly, the Fed has decided to resume the inflation spree. Here’s an article that supports that position.

Wednesday, stocks lost 1.5% in Asia, 0.5% in Europe, and 0.9% in the U.S. on 19B shares traded. The NYSE ended back below its 22,000 benchmark.

Thursday, stocks gained 0.4% in Asia, closed unchanged in Europe, and lost 0.4% in the U.S. on 18B shares traded. The VIX rose 7% to close at 17.62. The Dow, NASDAQ, and S&P 500 indices ended below their respective 48,000, 23,000, and 6800 levels.

Friday, stocks fell 0.3%  in Asia, rose 0.9% in Europe, and ended little changed in the U.S. on 27B shares traded. The NASDAQ ended above its 23,000 benchmark.
