Stocks Recover and Miners Soar

Monday, stocks rose 0.7% in Asia, slightly in Europe, and 0.5% in the U.S. on 19B shares traded. The VIX fell 12% to close at 20.52. Precious metals advanced 2% and their miners gained three times that amount. The S&P 500 index closed above its 6700 benchmark. IBM ended above 300.

Tuesday, stocks gained 0.8% in Asia, 0.9% in Europe, and 1.3% in the U.S. on 17B shares traded. The VIX fell 10% to end at 18.56 and pivot back to the greed region. The Dow and NASDAQ closed above their respective 47,000 and 23,000 levels.

Wednesday, stocks rose 1.3% in Asia, 1.1% in Europe, and 0.8% in the U.S. on 15B shares traded. The VIX fell 7% to end at 17.19. The S&P 500 index closed above 6800. Precious metals climbed 2% as their miners rose 5%.

Thursday, stocks gained 0.3% in Asia ended little changed in Europe and did not trade in the U.S. in observance of Thanksgiving Day.

Friday, stocks lost 0.3% in Asia but gained 0.3% in Europe and 0.5% in the U.S. on 9B shares traded. The VIX fell 5% to end at 16.35. Precious metals gained 3% while their miners rose 4%.
