Stocks Cheered by CPI and Trade News

Friday, stocks fell slightly in Europe but gained 0.6% in Asia and 0.3% in the U.S. on 20B shares traded. The VIX fell 5% to end at 16.37. The Dow and NASDAQ closed above their respective 47,000 and 23,000 benchmarks. The Dow, NASDAQ, S&P 500 indices each registered a record high close. The BLS monthly CPI report was received by investors as further support for the Fed to lower interest rates at their next meeting.
