FOMC Caves

Monday, stocks rose 0.3% in Asia, 0.4% in Europe, and slightly in the U.S. on 18B shares traded. The VIX rose 6% to end at 15.69. Precious metals and their miners advanced 1%. The S&P 500 ended above 6600 at a record closing high. The NASDAQ also ended at a record closing high. Gold also hits a record high.

Tuesday, stocks gained 1.1% in Asia but lost 1.2% in Europe and slightly in the U.S. on 18B shares traded. Precious metals miners fell 2%.

Wednesday, stocks ended unchanged in Europe but rose 0.4% in Asia and 0.3% in the U.S. on 19B shares traded. Precious metals and their miners lost about 1%. The Dow closed above 46,000. Despite a roaring stock market, relentless inflation, and strong employment FOMC cut rates 0.25% — likely in a vain attempt to keep the U.S. Treasury from going broke sooner rather than later.

Thursday, stocks lost 0.5% in Asia but gained 0.8% in Europe 0.3% and in the U.S. on 20B shares traded. IBM closed above 260. The Dow NASDAQ, S&P 500 ended at a record closing high.

Friday, stocks fell 0.8% in Asia ended little changed in Europe and closed unchanged in the U.S. on 28B shares traded. Precious metals gained 2% and their miners shot up 5%.  Apple ended above 240. The Dow NASDAQ S&P 500 ended at a record closing high.
