Gold Shines

Monday, stocks rose 0.4% in Asia but ended little changed in Europe and the U.S. on 18B shares traded. The VIX shot up 21% to close at 17.90. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield fell 2% to end at 4.53. Precious metals and their miners declined about 1.5%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 ended below their respective 45,00 and 6100 benchmarks. .

Tuesday, stocks fell 0.3% in Asia, rose 0.3% in Europe, and ended little changed in the U.S. on 14B shares traded. The VIX fell 8% to end at 16.41. Precious metals and their miners gained about 1%. Apple ended above its 230 benchmark.

Wednesday, stocks advanced 0.3% in Asia and 0.5% in Europe but declined slightly in the U.S. on 13B shares traded. The FOMC held interest rates unchanged.

Thursday, stocks climbed 0.4% in Asia, 0.8% in Europe, and 1.2% in the U.S. on 14B shares traded. Precious metals gained 2% and their miners shot up twice that amount as gold hits a record high. The NYSE ended above 20,000. IBM shot up 13% to close above its 250 benchmark.

Friday, stocks ended little changed in Asia and Europe but fell 0.8% in the U.S. on 16B shares traded. Gold hit another record high. The NYSE closed below 20,000. Finally, the Federal Reserve balance sheet declined 14B to 6.82T.
