Stocks Higher

Monday, stocks fell 1.2% in Asia, 0.6% in Europe, and 0.4% in the U.S. on 15B shares traded. Precious metals and their miners fell 2%. The Dow and NYSE closed above their respective 42,000 and 19,000 benchmarks.

Tuesday, stocks closed unchanged in Europe but gained 0.4% in Asia and 0.7% in the U.S. on 14B shares traded. Precious metals rose 1% and their miners gained three times that amount.

Wednesday, stocks gained 0.5% in Asia, 1.2% in Europe, and 1.3% in the U.S. on 15B shares traded. The VIX rose 14% to close at 16.11. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield fell 3% to end at 4.65. The Dow ended above 43,000 and S&P 500 closed over 5900. IBM ended over its 220 benchmark. The CPI numbers showed inflation rages on but at a subdued rate. Thursday, stocks gained 1.0% in Asia, 1.2% in Europe, and 0.7% in the U.S. on 15B shares traded. Precious metals gained 1%. Apple closed below 230.

Friday, stocks declined slightly in Asia but advanced 0.7% in Europe, and 0.3% in the U.S. on 15B shares traded. Precious metals lost 1%. Finally, the Federal Reserve balance sheet declined 20B to 6.83T.
