Wednesday, stocks lost 0.7% in Asia, gained 03% in Europe, and ended little changed in the U.S. on 15B shares traded. The NASDAQ closed above the 20,000 level, to a record high close and eclipsed the NYSE in raw index number. Consumer prices for November indicated that inflation continues to be a problem.
Thursday, stocks rose 1.1% in Asia but fell slightly in Europe and lost 0.6% in the U.S. on 14B shares traded. Precious metals fell 2% and their miners lost twice that amount. The NASDAQ closed below its 20,000 benchmark.
Friday, stocks fell 1.1% in Asia, 0.5% in Europe, and declined slightly in the U.S. on 13B shares traded. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield fell 2% to end at 4.40. Precious metals fell 2% and their miners lost 3%. Finally, the Federal Reserve balance sheet rose 1B to 6.90T.
