Cryptocurrencies Surge Higher

Monday, stocks closed little changed in Asia, fell 0.3% in Europe, and ended unchanged in the U.S. on 15B shares traded. Precious metals gained 2% and their miners rose twice that amount.

Tuesday, stocks gained 0.9% in Asia, fell 0.4% in Europe, and closed unchanged in the U.S. on 14B shares traded. The VIX advanced 5% to end at 16.35. Precious metals gained 1% and their miners rose twice that amount. The S&P ended above 5900. IBM ended above 210.

Wednesday, stocks fell 0.9% in Asia, ended unchanged in Europe, and closed up slightly in the U.S. on 14B shares traded. The VIX rose 5% to close at 17.16.

Thursday, stocks lost 0.5% in Asia but gained 0.5% in Europe, and 1.1% in the U.S. on 16B shares traded. Precious metals and their miners gained 1%.

Friday, stocks rose 0.4% in Asia, 1.1% in Europe, and 0.8% in the U.S. on 14B shares traded. The VIX fell 10% to close at 15.24. The Dow, NASDAQ, and NYSE ended above 44,000, 19,000, and 20,000 respectively. The NYSE also ended at a record high. Bitcoin led cryptocurrencies higher as it approaches the $100,000 mark. Finally, the Federal Reserve balance sheet declined 43B to 6.92T.
