Wednesday, stocks lost 0.4% in Asia and 1.1% in Europe but gained 2.5% and in the U.S. on 14B shares traded. The VIX fell 13% to close at 25.42. Precious metals rose 1% and their miners moved up twice that amount. The FOMC announced a 0.5% interest rate hike. The Dow Jones Industrials, S&P 500, and NYSE indices closed above their respective 34,000, 4300, and 16,000 benchmarks. Apple ended above the 160 mark.
Thursday, stocks in Asia closed up slightly, in Europe lost 0.6%, and in the U.S. gave up 2.9% on 14B shares traded. The VIX shot up 23% to close at 31.20. Precious metals declined 1% and their miners fell three times that amount. The Dow Jones Industrials, S&P 500, and NYSE indices closed below their respective 33,000, 4200, and 16,000 benchmarks. Apple ended below the 160 mark.
