Precious metals gained 1% and their miners gained about three times that amount. The Dow, NASDAQ, and S&P 500 closed above their 35,000, 14,000, and 4500 benchmarks respectively.
Tuesday, stocks gained 0.5% in Asia, 1.3% in Europe, and 1.0% in the U.S. on 12B shares traded. The VIX swooned 12% to close at 21.96. Precious metals gained 1%.
Wednesday, stocks rose 1.0% in Asia and 0.4% in Europe and in the U.S. on 11B shares traded. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield fell 3% to close at 1.77.
Thursday, stocks fell 0.7% in Asia, 1.8% in Europe, and 1.3% in the U.S. on 11B shares traded. The VIX moved up 10% to close at 24.35. Precious metals fell about 1%. The NASDAQ closed below 14,000 and the S&P 500 closed below 4500.
Friday, stocks gained 1.2% in Asia, fell 1.2% in Europe, and closed little changed in the U.S. on 11B shares traded. The VIX fell 5% to close at 23.22. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield rose 6% to close at 1.93. Precious metals gained about 1%. The NASDAQ closed above 14,000 and the S&P 500 closed above 4500. The glowing jobs report had a bit of a foul odor to it.
