Cary Town Council: Neighborhood vs Developer Friendly
For over a year, our neighborhoods battled a request to flip a residential lot zoned R-12 for 26 years in Fieldstone (later renamed Landsdowne) Subdivision from residential to office. Council, P&Z, and staff acknowledged this was a difficult decision. In the end, Council voted four to three to approve the rezoning. This vote served as a litmus test of sorts regarding which Council members were neighborhood friendly and which were developer friendly.
With elections coming, you may wish to consider who voted in your favor (to deny this rezoning) and who voted to favor Developers (approve the rezoning). Here’s the result:
No votes (favored neighborhoods):
- Ed Yerha – spoke in our favor explaining how this rezoning did not fit the Cary Community Plan.
- Jennifer Robinson – felt the rezoning did not fit the Cary Community Plan.
- Ken George – presented reasons to favor rezoning despite his vote
Yes votes (favored development):
- Don Franz – as usual, sided with rezoning for denser development.
- Jack Smith – asked questions with obvious answers he should have known.
- Lori Bush – convinced herself that this was the best alternative.
- Harold Weinbrecht – researched and concluded that rezoning would be a good option.

Also, sprinkled through the Public Speaks Out section (near the beginning), you will find three speakers in opposition to the rezoning and two in favor of it.
