Monday, stocks in Asia fell 0.3% but in Europe rose 0.3%. Markets in the U.S. were closed for Labor Day.
Tuesday, stocks fell slightly in Asia and Europe. In the U.S. they dropped 0.6% on light volume. The VXO moved up 5% to close at 20.89. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond rate fell 3% to close at 1.47. Precious metals gained 3% while their miners moved up 2%. as hope evaporated for a trade deal in the near future with China.
Wednesday, stocks gained 1.3% in Asia, 0.9% in Europe, and 1.1% in the U.S. on light volume. The VXO fell 11% to close at 18.50. Precious metals gained 1% while their miners rose twice that amount.
Thursday, stocks rose 1.1% in Asia, 0.7% in Europe, and 1% in the U.S. on renewed trade talk optimism. The VXO fell 11% to close at 16.43. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond rate shot up 7% to close at 1.56. Precious metals fell 3% and their miners plummeted nearly twice that amount. The NASDAQ closed back above 8000 while Apple and IBM recaptured their respective 210 and 140 closing benchmarks.
Friday, stocks rose 0.4% in Asia, and 0.3% in Europe but closed little changed in the U.S. on light volume. The VXO fell 6% to close at 15.48. Precious metals and their miners shed 2%.
