Monday, stocks fell 1% in Asia, closed little changed in Europe, and gained 0.8% in the U.S. on low volume. The VXO fell 8% to 21.09. Apparently, investors were encouraged by the new prospects of a settlement of the trade war with China.
Tuesday, stocks rose 0.5% in Asia and 0.6% in Europe but fell 0.4% in the U.S. on light volume. The VXO rose 6% to close at 22.33. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond rate plunged 4% to close at 1.49. Precious metals gained 2% and their miners moved up 3%. IBM closed above the 130 benchmark.
Wednesday, stocks in Asia and Europe fell slightly. Stocks rose 0.7% in the U.S. on low volume. The VXO fell 6% to close at 21.07. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond rate fell 2% to close at 1.47. The Dow Jones Industrial Average again closed above the 26,000 benchmark.
Thursday, stocks closed unchanged in Asia, up 1.1% in Europe, and up 1.2% in the U.S. on light volume. The VXO fell 9% to close at 19.26. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond rate fell 3% to close at 1.52. Precious metals fell 1% and their miners fell twice that amount. Friday, stocks rose 1.2% in Asia, 1.1% in Europe, and 0.3% in the U.S. on low volume.
