Monday, stocks closed little changed in Asia, rose 0.5% in Europe, and gained 0.4% in the U.S. on moderate volume. Investors celebrated with the three major indices each reaching new closing highs despite the tragic massacre in Las Vegas just hours earlier. Precious metals moved up 3% on the chaotic day.
Tuesday, stocks rose in Asia 0.9%, slightly in Europe, and 0.3% in the U.S. on low volume. All three major stock market indices ended at record closing highs. Wednesday, stocks in Asia gained 0.3%, but those in Europe and the U.S. closed little changed on low volume. Despite the lack of movement, all three major stock market indices closed in positive territory logging new record closing highs.
Thursday, stocks closed down slightly in Asia up slightly in Europe, and up 0.3% in the U.S. on low volume. The closing high streak continued for the major stock indices. Friday, stocks rose in Asia 0.3%, fell 0.4% in Europe, and fell slightly in the U.S, on low volume. That small amount of negative pressure prevented the S&P 500 from logging another record close. The Dow and NASDAQ however did set new closing records.
