Monday, stocks changed little in Asia but didn’t change all in Europe and the U.S. because they were closed. Tuesday, stocks closed little changed in Asia and Europe. In the U.S., they rose slightly on low volume. Precious metals gained 1% and their miners rose about twice that amount as the Dow inched ever closer to the 20,000 mark.
Wednesday, stocks again closed little changed in Asia. They rose 0.3% in Europe, but fell 0.8% in the U.S. on moderate volume. The VXO moved up 9% to close at 12.18. Precious metals miners gained 3% while the 10-Year U.S. Treasury Bond yield fell 2% to close at 2.51.
Thursday, stocks rose slightly in Asia, fell 0.3% in Europe, and rose slightly in the U.S. on light volume. The VXO rose 6% to close at 12.91 while precious metals gained 1% and their miners shot up 9%. Friday, stocks closed nearly unchanged in Asia. up slightly in Europe, and down slightly in the U.S. on low volume. Precious metals lost 2% and miners gave back 4%. For the year, the S&P 500 average gained nearly 10% with half of that coming in the bump after Trump was elected.
