Record High Syndrome Returns

Monday, stocks in Asia fell 0.3% in Asia, but rose 0.3% in Europe. Markets in the U.S. were closed for Independence Day. 

Tuesday, stocks closed little changed in Asia but fell 0.6% in Europe and 0.8% in the U.S. on 10B shares traded. The VXO rose 5% to close at 13.69. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield fell 4% to close at 1.37. The NASDAQ registered another record closing high. Apple closed above the 140 benchmark while IBM ended below that same level.

Wednesday, stocks fell 0.7% Asia and rose 0.8% in Europe but closed little changed in the U.S. on 10B shares traded. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield fell 4% to close at 1.32. The NASDAQ S&P 500 Index, and Apple each logged a record closing high.

Thursday, stocks fell 1.7% in Asia and Europe and 1.2% in the U.S. on 11B shares traded. The VXO jumped 24% higher to close at 17.04. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield fell 3% to close at 1.29. Precious metals miners fell 3% while IBM closed above its 140 benchmark.

Friday, stocks gained and 1.7% in the U.S. on 9B shares traded. The VXO plunged 19% to close at 13.88. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury bond yield moved up 5% to close at 1.36. Precious metals rose 1% and their miners gained twice that amount. The Dow, NASDAQ, and S&P 500, as well as Apple recorded record closing highs.
