Wall Street Favorites Lift Stocks

Monday, stocks closed unchanged in Asia and nearly unchanged in Europe. While they gained just slightly, that was enough to continue the all time high syndromes for the three major indices. Tuesday, stocks gained 1% in Asia, fell 0.5% in Europe, and fell slightly in the U.S. on strong volume. The VXO moved up 7% to close at 8.63. The Dow Jones Industrial Average managed to close with a small gain to log another closing high.

Wednesday, stocks in Asia rose 0.3%, closed virtually unchanged in Europe, and rose slightly in the U.S. on strong volume. The record-high syndrome continued with all major indices eking out a marginal closing record high. Thursday, stocks closed nearly unchanged in Asia, fell 1.1% in Europe, and lost 0.4% in the U.S. on strong volume. The 10-Year U.S. Treasury Bond yield rose 3%, to close at 2.40. The VXO gained 11% to close at 9.26.

Friday, stocks fell 0.5% in Asia and 0.4% in Europe and the U.S. on moderate volume. The VXO rose 6% to 9.80. IBM closed below the $150 mark for the first time in a while.
