All Is Calm, All Is Bright

Monday, stocks in Asia fell 1.5%, in Europe fell 1.2%, and in the U.S. rose 0.6% on light volume. This lifted the NYSE Index above the 10,000 benchmark again. The VXO dropped 8% to close at 19.44.

Tuesday, Asian stocks rose 0.8%, were flat in Europe, and rose 0.9% in the U.S. on light volume. This was just enough steam to boost the NASDAQ above the 5000 level. The VXO fell 9% to close at 17.74 while the 10-Year U.S.Treasury Bond Yield rose 2% to end the day at 2.24%.

Wednesday, stocks rose in Asia 0.4%, in Europe 2.8%, and in the U.S. 1.3% on light volume. The VXO fell another 8% to close at 16.28. Thursday, stocks in Asia fell slightly. Stocks in Europe were unchanged. In the U.S. they fell slightly on extremely low volume, but after all it’s Christmas Eve. Precious metals rose 1% and their miners gained about twice that amount. For the week, stocks moved up over 2% on low volume.
